The Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force recognizes that gangs in this county are infused within a majority of our communities, neighborhoods and schools. By understanding some common indicators of gang activity, your awareness of their presence will significantly increase. Your awareness as a parent, teacher, or active participant in the community can be the key to help ensure that your children are not being initiated into a criminal street gangs. Gang identification can be either a fairly simple task, or challenging in its nature. As members of our community, we have the duty and responsibility to carefully examine all avenues when determining whether individual is associated with a gang or not.
To help members of the community in this area The Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force provides free gang presentations to community groups. The presentations focus on gang indicators that may be found in your area from graffiti that is on that park bench to music that may be in a child’s CD player.
Presentations are generally customized to the audience with the following topics covered:
Our gang presentations are typically 1 to 2 hours in length depending on the size of the group and the volume of questions from the audience. There is also an accompanying power point slide presentation and handouts.
The Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force has already provided presentations to teachers, medical professionals, community action groups, student groups, and civic groups (including Rotary and the Kiwanis clubs).
We also provide presentations to law enforcement departments and other public safety organizations within our communities. Law enforcement presentations focus on the departments identified needs along with a broad county overview. They are a very effective tool to keep law enforcement appraised of current gang trends and to facilitate the meaningful exchange of information between agencies.
